THE ADVANTAGES OF PHONE COUNSELING OVER IN PERSON VISITS
The therapy I offer by way of the phone can be as effective as the traditional in-office visit in some cases. In my experience there are several advantages of phone therapy over traditional in-office face-to-face therapy. One advantage is the convenience and privacy of the phone. You may have apprehension or anxiety about an in-person office visit. You may not be willing to truly express your feelings and ideas because it seems intimidating to sit down face-to-face with a therapist. By using the phone, you can talk without the self-consciousness you may experience sitting across from a mental health professional.
Another consideration is that it is not uncommon to have a 4 week wait or longer for an initial appointment with most therapist. In addition, you have to include travel time and for some individuals, make arrangements for childcare. Another advantage of phone therapy is that you can counsel with a professional that is not available in your area. Some towns have few if any trained therapists and, even in cities, it can be difficult to find someone you feel comfortable with. This is of the utmost importance. You MUST feel comfortable with your therapist. Inaddition, many individuals are too embarrassed to make an in-person visit to a psychiatric office because of privacy concerns. None of these are issues in phone therapy. From the comfort of your own home or office, while on vacation or while traveling you can obtain help from an experienced, professional therapist with over 24 years of expertise.

CONFIDENTIALITY
Everything you say to me in your phone session is completely confidential. Confidentiality is your right. I cannot release information about you to any person, organization or establishment unless you sign an authorization form or I receive a court order. All communications are conducted in a private setting and held in strict confidence. The doctor-patient relationship is unique in that confidentiality and empathy are an absolute part of the process.
The only two exceptions would be: 1) If you disclose in your session that you are going to harm yourself or cause bodily injury to others or 2) You reveal a situation that may be considered abusive or dangerous to a child or an elderly individual.
phone counseling is scheduled by appointment only. When you fill out the questionnaire I will contact you to arrange an appointment. This questionnaire is very important. It is the initial platform for our therapy sessions. In our first meeting we get to know each other and insure that we both want to work together. In this first conversation I will ask you a number of questions that will allow me to make a preliminary assessment so that we do not have to waste any valuable time and money during the actual therapy session. We will work together to help you define your therapy goals and how they can be accomplished in the shortest period of time.
